Freedom for a Day gets dogs out of shelter environment
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Animal Care Services announced Tuesday the launch of its Freedom for a Day program.
The program is designed to allow dogs who have spent more than 30 days with IACS an opportunity to get out of the shelter environment.
According to IACS, the program was successfully tested with a group of volunteers and is now being opened to the public.
“Dogs who are stressed in the kennel tend to have a more difficult time finding an adopter, because they are either depressed or frustrated, and in turn, do not show a positive kennel presence,” said Katie Trennepohl, Deputy Director of IACS. “Giving these dogs a chance to get out, will not only help relieve and reduce kennel stress, it will also allow a potential adopter to see how the dog acts outside of the shelter environment.”
“Freedom Fosters” are encouraged to take pictures and share their experiences on social media to help the dogs find their forever home.
To learn more about the program, IACS encourages people to stop by the shelter during adoption hours.
In addition, IACS revealed Monday an April Adoption EGGstravaganza promotion. During the month of April, adoption fees will be either free, $5, $10 or $15 depending on which Easter egg the adopter chooses.
