‘Gr8 Comeback’: The Missing Brick uses its pizza to promote other local restaurants

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Missing Brick has become a popular spot on the northeast side of Indianapolis for pizza lovers after being open for just one year in the city.

Owner Que Alexander had the idea of collaborating with other local brick-and-mortar restaurants, taking their specialty dishes and making them the toppings to the pizzas she serves — hence the name “The Missing Brick.”

“The Missing Brick is all about everything that pizza’s been missing,” Alexander said.

She says their “family-based pizza joint,” which is mainly run by her and her sons, serves as a symbol of how to bridge the community while showing how local businesses can thrive through collaboration.

Hank’s Smoked Briskets and Chef Oya’s The Trap, restaurants that have been featured on the “Gr8 Comeback,” have pizzas named after them at The Missing Brick.

Alexander says that despite challenges presented by the pandemic, the restaurant has actually seen a 200% increase in sales. It’s a reality that she calls bittersweet.

“We’re the only thing on Binford that’s open,” Alexander said. While other restaurants in her area have had to close down, she says the pandemic has forced people to discover their pizza and once they’ve tasted the product, they’re hooked.

For first timers, Alexander recommends “The OG.” It’s a meatlover’s pizza designed by her son, Derrick.

The Missing Brick, 6404 Rucker Rd. Suite 105, is open 5-9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday for the time being. You can call 317-257-7557 to place a carryout order.
