INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man from Greenfield starts his journey across Indiana on foot Friday morning.

Joe Kern says he’s running across the state for three reasons: to generate donations for food pantries, test his endurance and follow in his dad’s footsteps.

Kern says his dad walked across the state in six days at the age of 70. The trip will take him from the west side of the state to the east side, along U.S. 40.

Kern is set to start outside Terre Haute at 7 Friday morning.

He says he hopes to travel the 167 miles across the state in 50 hours which would put him at the Ohio border on Sunday.
