Greenwood cancels Freedom Festival, fireworks display
GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – Greenwood residents will not be enjoying the Freedom Festival this year.
That’s because the city announced Wednesday that they have decided to cancel the annual event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“This was a very difficult decision, but we must prioritize the health and safety of citizens,” said Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers. “Given the current uncertainty regarding public and social activity, as well as the continued negative impact of COVID-19, we were left with no other choice. Postponement was discussed, but unfortunately, that route is not feasible.”
According to the city, the Freedom Festival which takes place on the last Saturday in June attracts more than 60,000.
