Hancock County high school teacher arrested for OWI

FORTVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — An Eastern Hancock High School teacher and basketball coach is behind bars for driving while intoxicated.

According to the Fortville Police Department, Sharon Doud was pulled over around 11 p.m. Friday after driving erratically on South Maple Street in Fortville.

The 47-year-old had a blood alcohol content level of .217, nearly three times the legal limit, according to police.

Police said she told officers she had been drinking at a concert.

She also reportedly said she was a teacher and varsity girls’ basketball coach at Eastern Hancock High School.

When reached for comment, Eastern Hancock Schools superintendent Vicki McGuire said, “This is a personnel issue and we will investigate and make decisions based on the facts.”

Doud was taken to the Hancock County Jail. She faces a preliminary charge of OWI.
