Hit-and-run on I-65 leads police to drugs, guns

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – State police say a hit-and-run crash Tuesday morning led them to drugs and two loaded firearms in Jasper County.

Investigators say a red pickup driven by Allen Johnson, 69, of Afton, Tennessee, was rear-ended around 7 a.m. on I-65 northbound at mile marker 222. That’s about two miles north of the Fair Oaks exit. Johnson’s vehicle ended up in bushes and trees on the east side of the road.

A trooper found a disabled SUV about two miles away driven by 43-year-old James Holliman of Dayton, Ohio. While Holliman told troopers that he hit a guardrail or road sign, ISP says because of paint transfer, car debris and a trail of antifreeze, Holliman hit the pickup.

When the car was impounded, troopers found about a pound and a half of marijuana and two loaded guns.

Both drivers were treated for injuries at the Jasper County Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Once Holliman was released, he was arrested on preliminary charges including leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, dealing marijuana and possession of firearms by a felon.
