Hot and stormy start to the weekend with big changes expected by mid-week next week

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Good Saturday evening, everyone! We’ve seen a hot start to the weekend with high temps today soaring into the mid to upper 80s, roughly 15-20° above average in most areas.

With the heat and moisture in place and a cold front set to slowly slide our direction, strong storms are possible this evening, especially along and north of the I-70 corridor.

A Severe Thunderstorm WATCH is in place for our northernmost communities through 10 p.m. A WATCH means that conditions are favorable for severe storms to develop with damaging winds being the primary threat.

Storms will fall apart through the overnight hours.

Overnight lows will slowly drop into the upper 60s and low 70s by daybreak Sunday.

We’ll see similarly hot temps Sunday with just a few stray storms.

Highs in most areas will top out in the mid to upper 80s in most areas.

The heat streak will carry on into the work week with mild and dry conditions Monday. Rain chances will be very limited.

If you’re looking for more rain, we’ll see a very good chance for showers and storms by late Wednesday and early Thursday as a potent cold front comes crashing in.

That front will be the catalyst for big changes as we push through the second half of next work week.

Highs will drop into the upper 60s by Thursday and all the way into the upper 50s by Friday. Overnight lows could drop as low as the upper 30s in some areas by next Friday and Saturday morning, so find those coats!
