LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) – A high-ranking Republican member of the Indiana House says he won’t seek re-election to a sixth term next year.
House Public Policy Chairman Tom Dermody of LaPorte said Thursday he wants to spend more time with his family and growing business. His son will be a senior in high school when his term runs out next year.The 49-year-old Dermody is chief executive officer of TCB Manufacturing, which produces commercial food and beverage coolers used by restaurants, schools, caterers and other food preparers. The LaPorte company has 70 employees.Dermody this year guided to passage legislation that allows Indiana’s riverboat casinos to move onto land, regulates negotiations for an expected tribal casino near South Bend and adjusts casino taxes to make Indiana’s casinos more competitive with those in neighboring states.
