Immigrant Welcome Center to host naturalization clinic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Immigrant Welcome Center will host a naturalization clinic Saturday to help newcomers complete applications for U.S. citizenship.

Lawful permanent residents who are eligible for citizenship will receive free assistance in completing their USCIS N-400 Citizenship application forms. The event is only for people who are eligible for citizenship and are ready to apply. Attorneys will not provide consultation at this event.

The event will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Ben Davis University High School, 1155 S. High School Road. Visitors should enter at Door No. 1.

Green card holders who may be eligible to apply for citizenship are welcome.

Registration is required. Call the Immigrant Welcome Center at 317-808-2326 to register.

A 2016 survey found that among the 63,594 people who were not citizens, 20 percent were potentially eligible for naturalization.

Immigrant Welcome Center Executive Director Terri Morris Downs said in a statement:

“Research shows that those who naturalize have greater opportunities to succeed as their income increases and other financial means improve. We believe that immigrants, old and new, are the backbone lifeblood of the American economy. New Americans contribute to our communities, not only economically but socially, culturally and civically.”
