IMPD hosts ‘Community Conversation’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Recent crimes have some people living on the northwest side of Indianapolis asking questions. They want to know what’s next for their neighborhood.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department hosted its first “Community Conversation” for the year at The Blended Church in the Northwest District.

Many came to this community conversation with questions and concerns hoping to leave with some solid answers.

“I would like to know how many officers we have in our area at any given time and if they’re patrolling inside the neighborhood,” said resident Tammy Riedlinger. “If they come into the housing community or if they’re just on the main street.”

Officers and detectives from IMPD and other agencies, like Animal Care and Control, and the Wayne Township Fire Department spent an hour getting to know the people they serve.

“From day to day we see the bad. We respond to the bad and so it’s very refreshing to hear positive compliments and citizens know that we’re out providing quality of life safety for our citizens,” said Capt. Lorenzo Lewis, IMPD Northwest District.

The chance to talk one-on-one with law enforcement brought out a large crowd after recent reports of crimes across the city. Some people wanted to know what’s being done about break-ins in their neighborhood.

“I was hoping to find out what the time is for police to come and make an arrest,” said Jennifer Carruthers, resident.

While others just simply wanted to take some time to say thank you to those men and woman, who risk their lives every day to serve and protect the people of Indianapolis.

“I don’t think they get enough credit,” said Donna Bonesteel, resident. “I think they put themselves in danger for us all the time. I think that everybody should come out to say thank you and I think it’s a hard job and I don’t think they get appreciated enough.”
