IMPD identifies victim after fatal hit-and-run

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One person is dead following a fatal hit-and-run Monday evening.

The crash occurred just after 9 p.m. in the 2200 block of North Illinois Street. After arriving on scene, responding officers discovered an unresponsive man lying in the street. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the man dead on scene.

Police identified him Monday at 66-year-old Brett Leveque of Indianapolis. Investigators are looking for a gold or beige colored 2000 to 2005 Buick LeSabre with front end damage. It’s also missing the passenger side mirror and might have windshield damage.

Authorities believe Leveque was on foot at the time of the accident and was hit by a northbound vehicle while crossing the street in a poorly lit area. He was not at a crosswalk while attempting to cross the street, police said.
