IMPD: Man accused of Broad Ripple pub homicide arrested in Michigan

Man accused in homicide outside Broad Ripple bar

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis man has been arrested in Michigan in connection to an October 2019 homicide at a Broad Ripple bar, police say.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Curtis Baker, 42, of Indianapolis, has been arrested for suspicion of the October 2019 shooting death of Alfred James Hayes Jr.

Hayes, 36, was shot Oct. 3 at Conner’s Pub just after 3:30 a.m. He died a short time later.

According to court documents, Baker shot Hayes after Hayes confronted him for pushing a female bartender. Hayes worked as a part-time bouncer at the bar and he was “attempting to remove some unruly patrons” before the shooting, court documents show.

A warrant was issued for Baker’s arrest on Nov. 4, according to online court records.

Authorities in Michigan say Baker was arrested at a Marathon gas station in Edwardsburg, Mich. Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. He has not yet been returned to Indiana.
