IMPD names man killed on Tibbs Avenue
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed a man was shot and killed on the city’s west side on Tuesday.
Police were called to the 600 block of North Tibbs Avenue to investigate reports of a man who was possibly deceased. IMPD said someone called 911 after arriving at the home and found the man’s body just after 10 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found the man had multiple gunshot wounds and was not responsive. IMPD said he died at the scene. Detectives are trying to figure out a timeline of when the shooting happened, but they believe it was sometime Tuesday.
Investigators canvassed the area, talking to neighbors who may have seen or heard anything.
Wednesday morning, the victim was identified as 39-year-old Jonathan Cooper of Indianapolis. Drugs were found in Cooper’s possession, so police believe the incident wasn’t random.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
