IMPD officer facing strangulation, battery charges

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has been charged for allegedly strangling his live-in girlfriend.

Johnn Scott, a 14-year veteran of IMPD, was arrested last week in the case.

Scott is accused of strangling his girlfriend in the presence of his son and her daughter.

Scott told investigators that she came home drunk and began smoking in bed, which upset him and gave him breathing problems.

Scott said the woman then dropped the cigarette on the bed, and that he threw water to put it out.

Scott said the woman punched him in the face.

Officers noted marks on her necks.

Scott said she injured herself while throwing items when intoxicated.

Scott faces two felonies and one misdemeanor in the case.

According to online court records, a no contact order has been issued and Scott has been placed on home detention with GPS monitoring.
