IMPD officer uses his music to connect with kids in the city
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer is using his music skills to connect with kids in the city.
Officer Jay Broader has been with IMPD for nearly four years, but music has always been a part of his life.
He spends at least an hour a working on his music.
He writes the lyrics and records the songs.
His music is considered Christian hip-hop.
His co-workers found out about his abilities and asked him to perform for kids participating in Young Men Inc.
IMPD shared video of his performance.
He first performed without his uniform on.
He left the stage and then came back with his uniform on.
The kids were just as into it when they realized he was a police officer.
“That’s exactly what we need, building relationships and from an early age, getting kids to see that officers really aren’t just people with jobs they’re actual people that actually care about you that actually want to help you out in any way they can,” said Officer Broader. “I think that was really good for me just to see that they were really welcoming and warm when they realized I was a police officer and even before that.”
Officer Broader says he’s hoping to do more performances in the future to connect with kids and share his music with them.
His album “New Era” is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
