IMPD: Shooting victim found dead in north side driveway
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after an adult male was fatally shot Monday morning on the city’s north side.
According to police, officers were sent to the 4400 block of Primrose Avenue just after 5 a.m. after reports of shots fired in the area.
When arriving, officers found a suspicious man in the area. Police said the man initially cooperated, but he ended up running from officers. After a brief fight with officers, police said he was arrested a block over from where they were originally dispatched.
Police said a second call was then received that said a person had been shot on Primrose Avenue. Officers found 32-year-old Jason Byrd of Indianapolis unresponsive and shot multiple times. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Detectives have not confirmed if the person who ran from officers was involved in the homicide of Byrd, or if the person was just in the area. The person was transported to a nearby hospital after suffering a medical episode. It is not believed to be life threatening.
The males name has not been released.
