Improved pedestrian access, traffic flow coming to 2 busy 38th Street intersections

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two busy intersections on the northwest side of Indianapolis are getting improvements to pedestrian accessibility and traffic flow.

One project will be where 38th Street meets Commercial Drive, near Lafayette Square Mall.

Turn lanes, improved sidewalks and a multiuse path will all be added.

Crews will also be working at 38th Street and Moller Road.

They’ll be adding better pedestrian signals and a grass buffer between the sidewalks and curb.

“We think this is a great neighborhood. It’s got some great amenities. We want to make it easier to get here. We want to make it more pleasant when you get here, and we want some more people to be able to live here too,” said Ryan Hunt, the principal program manager for economic incentives with the Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development.

The construction projects are a partnership between the Indianapolis departments of Public Works and Metropolitan Development.

Construction is expected to start this summer and wrap up in the fall.
