Indiana Black Expo moving its headquarters
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana Black Expo announced Tuesday that the nonprofit is moving its headquaters from 31st Street and Meridian Street, to the former site of Crossroads Bible College on Shortridge Road near Shadeland Avenue. IBE purchased the building.
The 43,000 square-foot building will house music production, dance, videography, and photography studios for teenagers. Currently the program is serving 100 teens and more than 30 remain on a waiting list. Past students include former WISH-TV and current WSB-TV anchor Lori Wilson, Scott Evans (Access) and Julian Grace (WISH-TV.)
In addition to those studios, the building will provide services for residents that live nearby, including those living in the Beechwood Garden and Hawthorne Place Apartments.
“It is what we do. That is why we are here,” Jennifer Darby of IBE said. “We have the motto ‘working together works.’ Our motto is ‘we are one.’”
IBE plans to spend $4 million to renovate the building in several phases over the years. IBE will stay in it’s current location through the Expo’s annual Summer Celebration in July.
