Indiana inmate convicted in fatal stabbing of fellow inmate

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana prison inmate has been convicted of fatally stabbing a fellow inmate as the two men were fighting in a prison segregation unit.

A Madison County jury convicted 31-year-old Clarence Parsley of murder and possession of a dangerous device in the May 2011 killing of 27-year-old Timothy P. Knapp.

His sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 17.

Parsley testified that he forget he was holding a knife when he was temporarily blinded by mace a guard sprayed on him as the pair were fighting in the recreation area of a segregation unit at the Pendleton Correctional Facility.

The Herald Bulletin reports that after learning that Knapp had died from his wounds, Parsley told prison officers it was never his intention to kill him.
