Indiana medical marijuana supporters call for governor’s backing
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Medical marijuana took center stage Tuesday afternoon at the Indiana Statehouse.
Advocates of medical cannabis said studies show that medical weed can help people battling serious illness and addiction, so they had a town hall meeting to discuss the legislation they hope gets passed this session. They also discussed why the idea should have Gov. Eric Holcomb’s support.
David Phipps, a Hoosier advocate, said,” He’s a governor who was elected in by Hoosiers to represent Hoosiers not the federal government. We hope he comes around and I believe he could. He has an open mind to many issues and I hope cannabis is one of them.”
Nationally, 33 states and Washington, D.C., have legalized cannabis for either recreational, medical uses or both. The states do not include Indiana.
