FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) – A 37-year-old man is charged with murder in a Wednesday shooting in a residential area north of downtown Fort Wayne, police said.

John Lloyd Vires, of Fort Wayne, was being held in the Allen County jail. Online court records on Wednesday afternoon showed an arrest warrant out for Vires, but the Fort Wayne Police Department said in a news release issued Thursday that he has been formally charged. The court records showed no future hearing or an attorney for Vires.

The court records also said Vires was charged with an additional felony count involving the use of a firearm resulting in death.

Fort Wayne Police Department officers were called just after 1 a.m. Wednesday to a home in the 1600 block of Franklin Avenue. That’s off Spring Street between Leesburg Road and Sherman Boulevard.

The news release from police did not identify the man fatally shot, although police earlier said he died at the crime scene.

The public information officer for the Allen County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond Thursday afternoon to a News 8 request for Vires’ jail-booking photo.
