INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Each week in Community Link Carolene Mays-Medley and Marco Dominguez take a look at an organization or business that is making a positive impact on the community.
An organization empowering women to pursue STEM careers in Indiana is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Darcy Lee and Angela Freeman with Women & Hi Tech spoke about the organization and how it got started.
“It was really a group of women from scientist, technology and business women who saw a need to help attract more girls to STEM careers, to retian women who were currently serving in STEM careers and to support and celebrate the achievements of women in those careers,” explained Darcy Lee, president of Women & Hi Tech.
One of the organization’s goals in particular was to make Indiana a state that was favorable for women in STEM careers.
Currently the organization has about 1,400 members and more than 40 corporate sponsors that support it.
