RICHMOND, Ind. (WISH) — A middle school student was arrested after posting a threat towards the school on social media, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

The student’s Instagram post indicated that an act of violence might take place on Friday against Dennis Intermediate School in Richmond, police said.

After serving a search warrant to gain more information from Instagram, investigators identified the child responsible for the post.

The juvenile was arrested and later admitted to making the post as a prank.

Police say the student was charged with communication intimidation, a felony. The Wayne County Juvenile Probation Department determined the child could be released to guardians.

The child’s threat came nearly three years after a shooting at the middle school rattled the community.

In December of 2018, a 14-year-old boy walked into Dennis Intermediate with a gun. He took his own life after engaging in a shootout with responding officers.
