Indiana high school senior’s song to Class of 2020 amid pandemic goes viral
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Montgomery County teen has gone viral on social media for how she’s spending her time amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Abby Bannon’s senior year at Crawfordsville High School was cut short earlier this month. She’s one of many in the Class of 2020 who may not get to finish their final year.
So she wrote a song encouraging her fellow seniors.
“First it was like, ‘Oh this coronavirus will be no big deal, we will be fine,’” Bannon told News 18. “The next thing we know, it’s in our country, but we were still like, ‘There’s no way it will affect small town Crawfordsville. Nothing ever happens in Crawfordsville. There’s no way we are going to be affected by this!’ Then the next thing we know we are getting a week off school and our school is being pushed back.”
Bannon and her friend wrote the lyrics, and then put it online. Her mom’s post had more than 23,000 shares on Facebook as of Wednesday afternoon. Bannon hopes her song helps the Class of 2020 remember the good times.
“I can’t cure the coronavirus and it’s so out of my control and I hate that,” said Bannon. “But I’m such a doer and I want to be able to help and do my part. We are missing out on a lot of things, but hopefully these aren’t the best four years of our lives.”
Bannon plans to keep writing music next year while in college at Belmont University in Nashville.
