SCOTT, Ind. (WISH) — A man died Thursday after a crash in northern Indiana, according to Indiana State Police.

David Sabanadze, 40, of New Jersey, was westbound on I-90 near the 116 mile marker around 8:45 p.m. when the semi-tractor trailer in front of him stopped on the roadway due to back up from lane closures.

According to police, Sabanadze failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the semi at full speed.

Sabanadze was entrapped and unable to be extracted from his vehicle for “an extended period of time,” according to a release from ISP. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, John Hairston, 55, of Tennessee, appeared uninjured, but was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The crash remains under investigation. Police believe that unsafe speed and following too closely were contributing factors.
