Man riding motorcycle dies after being hit by semi on I-265

CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A man is dead after being hit by a semitrailer on Interstate 265 near the Interstate 65 interchange in Clark County Wednesday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say emergency responders received reports of the crash around 2:43 p.m.

John Billman, 52, of Jeffersonville, was entering westbound I-265 from the I-65 northbound onramp on a Harley Davidson motorcycle at the same time the semi was approaching the onramp. Investigators believe the semi crossed into the onramp as the motorcycle was trying to merge left into the westbound lanes and hit the motorcycle.

Billman was pronounced dead by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the semi, 51-year-old James Mayfield, of Andrews, North Carolina, was not injured. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
