Memorial service for former Sen. Birch Bayh to be held at Statehouse
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A memorial service is planned for the late Birch Bayh.
It will be held on May 1 at noon in the south atrium of the Statehouse. The service will be open to the public.
Former Senator Bayh died last month. He served in the U.S. Senate for 18 years.
He authored the landmark Title IX sports law mandating equal opportunities for women at colleges and universities.
He also authored both the 25th and 26th amendments to the Constitution.
Bayh is the father of Evan Bayh who served two terms as Indiana governor and two terms as a U.S. senator.
