Mooresville project lights way into Indiana Bicentennial

MOORESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – One of the tallest torches in the United States has been completed to celebrate the Indiana Bicentennial.

Officially endorsed as an Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project, the pillar stands at 60 feet with a 9.5-foot illuminated flame at the top.

According to the release, the Bicentennial Torch stands next to two gateway monuments. They are stationed at the north and south ends of Mooresville along State Road 67.

The monument was constructed of local goods including manufactured red brink and Indiana limestone.

“We’re excited the first phase of the Mooresville Gateway/Corridor plan has been completed and look forward to implementing other phases in the near future,” said Harold Gutzwiller, president of the Mooresville Redevelopment Commission.

The torch is part of the first phase of the plan and includes a limestone map of Indiana. The map shows the topographic variety of the State and includes a 25-foot replica of the Bicentennial Torch.
