Indiana soldiers deployed to Guantanamo Bay

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana military police were deployed to Guantanamo Bay on Saturday to assist with Operation Enduring Freedom.

Approximately 30 soldiers of the 38th Military Police Company, Indiana Army National Guard, had the opportunity to bid farewell to their family and friends before they left.

Their mission is to provide general security force support at the Cuban detention facility.

“I charge the leaders to bring these Soldiers back in better shape, both mentally and physically,” said Lt. Col. Walter Finney, 38th Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion Commander. “I charge all of you to execute your duties and responsibilities to the best of your ability the first time, and every time.”

The soldiers will first travel to Fort Bliss, Texas, to receive more training before they deploy to Cuba.
