Indiana statewide officials set for formal swearing in

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Republicans elected as Indiana’s secretary of state, treasurer and auditor are set to be formally sworn into office.

Their terms began Jan. 1, but Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Auditor Suzanne Crouch and Treasurer Kelly Mitchell had already taken office after their predecessors were either forced out or resigned.

All three won by wide margins in the November election and are taking their oaths during a Statehouse ceremony.

Lawson was appointed by then-Gov. Mitch Daniels in 2012, after former Secretary of State Charlie White was convicted of voter fraud.

Mitchell took office in mid-November to complete the term of Richard Mourdock, who resigned in August to avoid a cut in retirement benefits. Gov. Mike Pence appointed Crouch in 2013 after the previously appointed auditor resigned for unexplained personal reasons.
