Indianapolis man convicted of murder and robbery

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – An Indianapolis man that police say attacked and robbed a Greenwood man, who later died of his injuries, has been found guilty of murder and robbery.

Zachary Ray, 26, was found guilty after a two-day jury trial in Marion County, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner The Daily Journal reports.

According to police, in April of 2013, Zachary Ray and Richard Mays waited outside a bar and jumped Michael Campbell after he was lured outside by a woman, Lori McKinney.

Mays and Ray severely beat Campbell, a truck driver, before they robbed him. He had $30 in cash on him at the time.

Campbell was taken to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition. His family had him taken off life support a month after the robbery, when he did not regain consciousness.

An autopsy determined Campbell died due to blunt force trauma to the back of the head.

Ray will be sentenced March 18.

Mays has been charged with murder and robbery and will stand trial June.

McKinney has been charged with robbery.
