Indoor zorbing opens in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A new, indoor zorbing facility has opened in Fort Wayne. The Ball Hive, located at 4629 Lima Road is a place for the whole family to stay active and have fun all-year round.

Young entrepreneur siblings Brittany and Bradley George are introducing the idea of zorbing to much of the public for the first time. Zorbing involves playing inside large inflatable balls.

“We wanted to create more indoor activities that parents can bring kids to or even adults can do in the winter,” Brittany George said. “You’re not just totally stuck at home.”

The Ball Hive has bubble balls, which wrap around a person from their head to their knees. It also has a zorb, which the George’s described as a giant human hamster ball that a person crawls inside of and then propels forward by running or by being pushed. The facility has smaller balls for children too little for the bubble balls.

“You just stop by and we teach you how to play safely,” Brittany George said. “You’re free in this arena to do anything you want. You can run, flip, bounce, smash into each other and run into walls.”

In addition to open zorbing, where players play as they please inside the arena, they will also host special games like bubble soccer and other games meant to be played inside a bubble ball.

The George’s said they’re promoting healthy play.

“We made sure we keep really healthy snacks, just water, Gatorade, that kind of thing,” Brittany George said. “So [the kids] take a break and get some healthy snacks to fuel gameplay as opposed to just fill them up and leave them feeling heavy. So take a break, get back in and go again and kids just keep going in these all day long. It’s so much fun.”

The siblings said the facility can be used for birthday parties, fundraisers and group events.

“We are the only dedicated indoor zorbing facility in Indiana,” Brittany George said. “It’s the only place you can stop by and just try this out and not have to invest a lot of time and effort into it. Everybody wants to do this. It’s on some people’s bucket lists. So, it’s something I think Fort Wayne will really enjoy.”

The Ball Hive has already had its soft opening and people are welcome to come and play. Their grand opening celebration will be in July.
