INDOT: City owns ‘dumping ground property’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Homeowners living near Lick Creek Parkway South Drive no longer have to wonder who owns a small piece of property in Marion County.

Monday afternoon, Department of Public Works trucks were parked next to the land they first said they didn’t own. Brian Bowers lives across what locals call “a dumping ground.”

Piles of trash, uncut weeds and an 18-foot-boat are visible to commuters driving down South Madison and the interstate.

“I called the Mayor’s Action Hotline for the past year and left messages without one returned call back,” Bower said.

INDOT confirmed the city does own the property after looking up records connected to it dating back to 1960s.

Public Works says they will remove the weeds, haul off the boat and block off the area so it isn’t accessible for people to drop off unwanted items. They plan have the area cleaned up within the next two weeks if weather permits.
