INDOT tackles traffic nightmare as concert season kicks off
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — As the construction season kicks off, so does the Klipsch summer concert series. That can mean messy traffic jams. INDOT officials are trying to plan around the schedule.
INDOT has just a few months to complete road projects. They’re working around rush hour traffic, weather, and with projects off of I-69 in and near Noblesville, they’re also working around the concert schedule.
At 95.5 WFMS, it doesn’t get much bigger than Miranda Lambert.
“She’s huge. She’s won six CMA awards in a row as female vocalist. She’s won seven ACMs as female vocalist. She’s one of the biggest artist we have in our format,” said afternoon DJ Jay Dillon.
When tickets to the country crooner’s show went on sale a couple months ago, it’s no surprise that the phone lines lit up as listeners tried their best to score a pair of tickets. Lambert is kicking off the summer series at Klipsch on Saturday.
“All week long, we’ve been giving away six pairs a day. The phones light up as soon as we talk about it. People definitely want to go see the show and it’s just a great kick off,” said Dillon.
And you can expect to see Miranda without a headache; at the concert and in the traffic. INDOT says crews will only be working on I-69 from exit 205 to 210 after fans make their way to the show.
“There will be northbound lane restrictions this weekend, only after 9:00 and those will be lifted at 6 a.m.,” said Nathan Riggs of INDOT.
That won’t, however, be the case for all concerts. INDOT says to expect some overlapping of projects and concerts.
“We’re keeping an eye on the concert schedule to try and minimize those inconveniences as much as possible. But, inevitably, we will get to a point where there will be some headaches for people going to concerts at Klipsch Music Center,” said Riggs.
But if they’re anything like the country mega star’s fans, it’ll be worth it.
“Listeners love Miranda Lambert. Obviously, a lot love Miranda Lambert. But it definitely is a show that is a great kick off to the summer,” said Dillon.
Riggs says even without construction, thousands of people make their way to Klipsch at the same time, so expect delays. His best advice is to just give yourself plenty of time to get there.
