Industrial cleaning company lays off 70 in Highland

HIGHLAND, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — A subsidiary of Texas-based K2 Industrial Services Inc. has let go dozens of workers in northwest Indiana. In a notice to the state, KM Plant Services Inc. says the sudden loss of a major client led to the decision to lay off 67 employees at its Highland facility.

Traditionally, under the terms of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, companies are required to provide notice of a mass layoff 60 days in advance. However, the company says it was “unable to do so because of how quickly our operations were affected by the sudden loss of a major client.”

It is not known if the layoffs are expected to be permanent.

KM Plant Services says the affected employees are represented by the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Local 460 and the United Steelworkers Local 2003-05.

The industrial cleaning company also has a location in Crawfordsville.
