Indy 500 champ Rossi helps complete graphic on JW Marriott

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Alexander Rossi, winner of the 100th Indianapolis 500, helped put the finishing touches on the new month of May graphic on the JW Marriott downtown Tuesday.

This is the fourth year the hotel has featured a month of May graphic, but the first time that the signage will appear on more than one side of the building.

Rossi said he wasn’t too scared to be that high up.

“The weird thing is, like, you can actually dictate the platform by your body weight, so it was like, ‘oh, I’m going forward. Now, oh, I’m going back.’ So once you just stand still it’s not that big of a deal,” Rossi said. “It’s like anything, you trust the equipment and the people around you.”

The top of the event logo on the facade is 330 feet above street level. That’s approximately 45 feet higher than the top of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

The 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 26.
