IndyGo rolls out new transit center Tuesday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The ribbon cutting of the Julia M. Carson Transit Center is happening Tuesday.

The ribbon cutting begins at 3 p.m.

The $26.5 million transit center includes:

  • 19 covered bus bays with real time bus information
  • A heated and air conditioned waiting room
  • Free WiFi
  • Message boards
  • Ticket sales

Buses will no longer travel in a loop of downtown, but all buses will stop at the transit center for connections.

IndyGo’s sending volunteers to bus stops to inform people of all the changes.

“I’m telling people about the center because it will be a nice warm place. i understand what its like to have little ones with you when they have to go to the bathroom. and i just like to talk a lot,” Estella Perkins, volunteer.

Those volunteers are handing out pamphlets and encouraging people to check out the transit changes on their website.
