Additional temporary layoffs announced
INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Three more businesses have announced temporary layoffs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In separate notices to the state, the companies say more than 570 jobs will be affected.
Ohio-based BWI Group USA, a subsidiary of Beijing West Industries Co. Ltd. in China, says it will temporarily shut down operations at its Greenfield facility and lay off 336 employees. The company, a supplier to Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F), says it hopes to resume production once Ford’s production lines start again, which is expected to occur next month.
The Hilton Garden Inn in South Bend says it will on Friday let go 88 employees “as a result of the unforeseeable, dramatic downturn in business and occupancy caused by the coronavirus natural disaster.” All of the layoffs are expected to be temporary.
Image One LLC in McCordsville says it has begun temporary layoffs or reduction in hours for 79 employees. The maker of signs and awnings says it is not known how long the decision will be in place.
The company says it has seen “a decline in orders, unavailable product and growing uncertainty regarding our customer base.”
Texas-based Prestige Maintenance USA says it is also laying off 69 employees in Indiana. The company provides janitorial services for JCPenney and Kohl’s stores throughout the state, which have shut down through at least April 1 as a result of the pandemic.
“While these closures are expected to be temporary, plans to re-open are subject to change due to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation,” the company said.
