CVS opens new drive through testing sites
WOONSOCKET, R.I. (Inside INdiana Business) — CVS Health plans to open over 20 new COVID-19 test sites at CVS Pharmacy drive-through locations across Indiana beginning Friday, May 22. The company is planning hundreds of new sites across the country that will use self-swab tests. The goal is to process up to 1.5 million tests per month from the nearly 350 locations in 14 states.
“While the large-scale test sites we’ve been operating since early April have proven successful, this new approach allows us to utilize our presence in communities across the country and bring testing closer to home,” said Larry J. Merlo, president and CEO, CVS Health. “Our frontline employees will continue to play a critical role in the testing process, with members of their communities directly benefitting from their dedication and selflessness.”
The company is using the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index to determine the communities with the greatest need. The index tracks several factors, including poverty rates, lack of access to transportation and crowded housing. Anyone wanting a test must register for an appointment in advance beginning Friday, May 22. Patients will be required to stay in their vehicles and will be directed to the pharmacy drive-through window where they will be given a test kit and instructions.
