KOKOMO, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — More details are expected Thursday on a major project in Kokomo.

Governor Eric Holcomb and Kokomo Mayor Tyler Moore will join officials from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to learn more about the company’s $400 million investment to transform its idled transmission plant into an engine plant.

Holcomb first announced the project during his State of the State address in January. FCA, which has its North American headquarters in the Detroit area, plans to expand and retool its Indiana Transmission Plant II in Kokomo to produce a new engine.

After the January announcement, the state said the new production is expected to require a workforce more than 1,000, which will include a combination of current FCA employees and an unspecified number of new hires.

Thursday’s event, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. says, will include an announcement of the plant’s new name and an unveiling of the new site design.

Inside INdiana Business will be on hand for the announcement and will have more information as it becomes available.
