Final ‘Charting the Future’ grants awarded
INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. is awarding a total of nearly $70 million 16 Hoosier higher education institutions. The funding is the third and final phase of the endowment’s Charting the Future for Indiana’s Colleges and Universities initiative, which aims to address challenges and opportunities faced by schools.
The grants, ranging from $2.7 million to $10 million, will support nine large-scale projects.
The endowment says the funding will help the schools address priorities that have “the potential to make the most impact on strengthening their institutions’ vitality and how they educate their students.”
“Indiana’s colleges and universities face myriad challenges as they work to fulfill their educational missions while adapting to growing financial pressures, rapid demographic and technological changes, and evolving needs and demands of students,” said Ted Maple, vice president for education at Lilly Endowment. “We are pleased with the creative and collaborative approaches the colleges and universities are taking to address these challenges and seize opportunities to better serve their students, institutions, communities and the state of Indiana through these nine projects.”
The initiative was launched in 2019 and the state’s 38 colleges and universities received planning and implementation grants in the first two phases. In total, the endowment has awarded more than $138 million through all three phases.
