FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — The city of Fort Wayne is ranked No. 1 on the list of “The 20 Best Cities to Buy a Second Home” from property casualty insurance agency Hippo. The ranking was determined through a study conducted last month that looked at several factors, including average home cost, property value gain over 10 years and cost of living.

The study also looked at the average cost of home insurance, comfort index, percentage of people who own their homes, property crime – burglary and walkability. Hippo describes Fort Wayne as “a big city with a small-town feel.”

“This charm is a prominent part of what keeps people around — that, and a lower cost of living than the national average,” the agency says. “If you’re looking for a noteworthy place to visit and enjoy the snow or escape the brutal summer heat seen in most other portions of the country, Fort Wayne is your best bet.”

The top 10 cities on the list include:

  1. Fort Wayne, Indiana
  2. El Paso, Texas
  3. St. Louis, Missouri
  4. Glendale, Arizona
  5. Laredo, Texas
  6. Boise, Idaho
  7. North Las Vegas, Nevada
  8. Bakersfield, California
  9. Riverside, California
  10. Tucson, Arizona
