GARY, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – The city of Gary is launching a data-driven digital initiative with support from San Francisco-based Innovaccer to assist its citizens with self-assessments for COVID-19-related infections. The city says the digital initiative will help residents proactively respond to the threat of the coronavirus and identify steps for prevention.

In its partnership with the healthcare technology company, the city says it is providing its citizens with an online tool to create individualized self-evaluation assessments. The assessments are powered by Innovaccer’s COVID-19 Management System and will help identify high-risk patient populations.

The company says the system’s assessments are based on specific details such as travel and contact history, chronic medical conditions, age and other factors.

Gary Mayor Jerome Prince says the COVID-19 Assistant will help Gary residents make better, informed decisions. Citizens can also access educational information such as prevention guidelines and details on self-quarantine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“I want to make sure that we shine a light on the health disparities in our community. Many people have barriers to access to primary care,” said Dr. Ronald Walker, Public Health Commissioner for Gary. “This tool will assist us in getting information to our citizens that is typically only dispensed by primary care physicians.”
