TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (Inside INDiana Business) — Greater Lafayette has been named 2021 Community of the Year by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. The chamber says the combined community of Lafayette and West Lafayette has been able to remain vibrant while other Hoosier cities and towns struggle with brain drain.

“When you look around Greater Lafayette, it’s absolutely phenomenal to see the continued transformation,” says Indiana Chamber President Kevin Brinegar. “It’s a testament to the dedication of business and community leaders in attracting new talent, retaining top workers and enhancing the quality of life. The area is a tremendous standout for the state.”

The chamber says a wide-ranging public-private partnership has pulled together resources from Lafayette, West Lafayette and Tippecanoe County “to assure the area’s business sector and population are growing and the region has the infrastructure and amenities to accommodate and continue that growth.”

According to data provided by Indiana Chamber, from 2015 to 2020, there has been $889.5 million in public investment into the area and $1.5 billion in private sector investment in the communities.

The award is one of four major statewide honors to be presented by the chamber during its annual awards program in November.

The other awards include leaders of the year in business and government, and dynamic leader of the year.
