Indiana to host Midwest Defense Innovation Summit

CARMEL, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Hoosier defense development sector leaders are planning the inaugural Midwest Defense Innovation Summit. The summit, which will bring together industry and government to steer the nation’s defense strategy, is scheduled to be held in October in Carmel.

The summit’s organizing committee includes the Indiana Innovation Institute, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, National Security Technology Accelerator, Radius Indiana and the National Security Innovation Network.

“The Midwest’s defense and technology industries have shown exponential growth and this summit aims to showcase and build on this success,” said Stephen Kelly, chief executive officer of the Indiana Innovation Institute. “By bringing together innovators and leaders from every facet of the sector, this summit will be a launching pad for a new era of defense technology development.”

Event organizers say defense research, development and innovation are top national priorities.

“It is no coincidence that this inaugural regional event will be held in Indiana – a state that has a rich tradition in developing innovative tools for our nation’s warfighters,” said Brooke Pyne, S2MARTS director, National Security Technology Accelerator. “As the challenges and threats facing our military at home and abroad change, Indiana wants to remain at the tip of the spear.”

The summit will take place on October 20-21 at the Renaissance Carmel Hotel. Invited speakers include state leaders from across the Midwest, representatives from federal agencies, members of Congress and members of the U.S. Military.
