IUPUI chancellor announces retirement

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — The chancellor of IUPUI has announced his intention to retire. Nasser Paydar, who has been a faculty member at Indiana University for more than 30 years and served as IUPUI chancellor since 2015, will step down next March.

Paydar joined IUPUI in 1985 as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering and served in several leadership positions through 2003. He also had stints as vice chancellor and dean at IUPUC and chancellor of IU East before returning to IUPUI in 2012.

IU credits Paydar with growing IUPUI’s footprint in downtown Indianapolis, including increases in on-campus housing and residential programs, enhanced student life opportunities and more than 550 degree programs.

“Indiana University is grateful for Chancellor Paydar’s tireless service,” IU President Pamela Whitten said in a news release “His career has been dedicated to providing strategic vision and planning that have ensured progress on every campus he has served. He has put student success at the forefront and focused on creating opportunities for underrepresented students to pursue higher education. The impacts of his leadership will be felt for years to come.”

Whitten is in the process of forming a search committee to find Paydar’s successor. The university says the search process will begin shortly and a new chancellor will be named before Paydar steps down on March 1.
