Leadership academy launches free virtual school
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Indianapolis-based Phalen Leadership Academies is launching a tuition-free online school catered to Indiana families. The nonprofit organization says the Phalen Virtual Leadership Academy will serve students in grades K-12.
The academy says PLA Virtual will provide quality e-learning through “dynamic virtual classrooms” where educators will provide real-time, personalized instruction. Learning programs will be incorporated into instructional time, and the nonprofit says teachers will facilitate small-group rotations across virtual classrooms.
“Our ultimate vision is that our scholars master key academic skills, demonstrate strong character, and excel above and beyond their peers in the district, and eventually the state,” said Phalen Leadership Academies Chief Executive Officer Earl Martin Phalen.
In the wake of the current COVID-19 crisis, the nonprofit says demand for online school options has increased.
The academy says it’s working to accommodate families who are more comfortable learning at home than returning to a traditional school environment.
PLA Virtual will offer families the opportunity to engage in important social aspects of learning such as participation in school clubs, activities and athletics.
“The PLA Virtual instructional model was designed by highly successful educators who have decades of experience working with and improving the performance of students, grades K-12. The PLA Virtual instructional model is evidence-based and focuses on instruction that is personalized, data-driven and optimizes scholar achievement in a virtual setting,” said Andrea Robinson, PLA chief academic officer.
