Lilly launches new open innovation challenge

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) has launched a new, national open innovation challenge. The pharmaceutical company says the challenge calls on individuals and teams to find digital health solutions to support people living with inflammatory skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis.

Lilly says “Transforming Atopic Dermatitis Care: Enhancing Quality of Life and Patient Care for People Living with Inflammatory Skin Diseases,” will focus on digital technologies such as mobile apps, sensors and wearables, connected drug delivery devices, real-time monitoring, algorithms and digital games, among others. The goal is to enhance patient care and improve health and well-being.

“Lilly is committed to advancing digital solutions that can give people greater control over their health. Atopic dermatitis is more than skin deep and can have a devastating impact for those who suffer from it,” Rich Carter, chief digital officer for Lilly, said in a news release. “Innovation challenges provide a great opportunity to help uncover bold and scalable digital solutions from anyone within the health tech community, including students, patients, caregivers, entrepreneurs, small-medium sized business and others.”

Lilly says the challenge is open to individuals, teams and organizations with submissions being accepted through Oct. 21. Five finalists will be selected by Nov. 20 based on their idea’s potential impact, creativity, technical feasibility and ability to address the long-term needs of people with atopic dermatitis.

The winning idea will be announced in December and will receive $50,000 along with the chance to co-develop the solution with Lilly.
