NIIC receives grant from Zollner Foundation

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — The Fort Wayne-based Northeast Indiana Innovation Center has received a $20,000 operating grant from the Zollner Foundation to support educational programs and services. The center says the grant will specifically focus on historically-excluded entrepreneurs by concentrating on major barriers, including mentors, management and marketing.

“We are grateful to The Zollner Foundation for this investment in the next generation of entrepreneurs in our community,” said Karl R. LaPan, president and chief executive officer, The NIIC. “With the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic faced by business builders this year, the timing could not be better. We know this investment in our region’s rising innovators will support their navigation through the crisis. This grant is an inspiring tribute to the legacy of Fred Zollner and the Zollner Corporation.”

The NIIC says it has filed nearly 200 patent applications and created more than 2,300 jobs since its inception two decades ago.
