MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC has signed a long-term agreement to purchase power from a proposed solar farm in Gibson County.

Capital Dynamics’ Clean Energy Infrastructure Business says NIPSCO will purchase 280 megawatts of power to be generated at Gibson Solar farm, one of two solar projects owned by CEI in the county.

CEI says construction is expected to start in 2022 and be operational in 2023.

The Gibson Solar project is one of 19 projects that Capital Dynamics acquired from Tenaska in November 2018 and April 2019. It sits on 2,400 acres in southern Indiana.

NIPSCO, a subsidiary of NiSource (NYSE: NI), says it plans to be coal-free by 2028, adding power generated from solar and wind farms to its existing portfolio of natural gas and hydroelectric generation.
